ADOPTION AGREEMENT (updated
2/28/06 )
Puppy/Dog obedience classes are highly recommended and required for first time dog owners.
If adopting a puppy that is too young to be altered, the adopter must agree to have the puppy altered by six months of age at their expense. Proof of altering must be sent to the Rescue. Happy Tails Dog Rescue has the legal right to re-claim any puppy that has not been altered by the age of six months. This will be enforced.
1. Your dog is to be kept as a house dog,
part of the family, and is to be brought in at night. The dog/puppy is not
to be left outside while the family is not at home.
2. Should adopter be unable to keep the dog/puppy, the dog/puppy is
to be surrendered to Happy Tails Dog Rescue. The dog/puppy cannot be
transferred to another person or organization without the permission of Happy
Tails Dog Rescue. A two-week notice would be appreciated so arrangements
can be made with foster homes so we have a place for the dog/puppy to go
to. There will be a $50 surrender fee. The fee is required for any re-training
and medical services that may need to be done.
3. The fee for the dog is NON-REFUNDABLE no matter what time frame the dog/puppy
has been with the Adopter. This means even if you have the puppy for less
than eight hours and you surrender it back to rescue, there is no refund!
4. The dog is not to be used for any illegal purpose i.e.: dog fighting, medical
research etc.
5. The dog/puppy is not to be kept in a basement or garage away from the
family. The dog/puppy must be kept in an area where the family spends most
of their time. Crates should be kept in the same area or bedroom as the
family if crate training a new puppy.
6. The age of the dog/puppy is an estimate, unless puppies have been born into
our rescue.
7. We very seldom have a history on the dogs/puppies that come into rescue. Dogs do not care what happened to them in the past, they care what happens to them in the present.
8. The breed of the dog/puppy is our best guess. We cannot guarantee the size of a puppy or dog, unless adopting an adult.
9. To the best of my knowledge, the dog/puppy is in good health. Any health problems that may occur after the date of adoption are not the responsibility of Happy Tails Dog Rescue. The Dog/Puppy should be taken to a vet within seven days of adoption for a general checkup.
10.The Dog Rescue assumes NO responsibility (of said dog/puppy after they have been adopted and placed into a home) for medical expenses, mortality, landlord disapproval, allergies, disagreement of family or any other reason. Under NO circumstances is the Dog Rescue responsible for any veterinarian bills incurred with the dog/puppy after it has been adopted.
11. Happy Tails Dog Rescue does not knowingly adopt dogs/puppies that have aggressive behavior, have bitten, or extreme fear in the dog/puppy once the dog/puppy is placed into the home. Please Note: We do extensive temperament testing with all puppies/dogs before bringing them in Rescue.
12. Happy Tails Dog Rescue is not responsible for any dog bites, aggressive behavior, or extreme fear in the dog/puppy once the dog/puppy is placed into the home.
13. We do not guarantee that a dog/puppy is housebroken, even though it may be housebroken in our foster homes.
